Il existe deux  grandes écoles représentées  par les figures emblématiques de Gould et de Darwin,  qui diffèrent à la fois sur le rythme de l’évolution (graduelle pour les uns avec des sauts pour les autres,  et sur la nature des mécanismes) qui sont à la base de cette évolution. Les uns insistant sur la toute puissance de l’adaptation,  les autres sur le hasard, et la contingence.

No, but it should.
Christopher Hitchens is the author of God Is Not Great and the editor of The Portable Atheist.

Of course not.
Kenneth R. Miller is a professor of biology at Brown University and the author of Finding Darwin's God: A Scientist's Search for Common Ground between God and Evolution and of Only a Theory: Evolution and the Battle for America's Soul.

 

Dennett's Response to Gould's NYRB pieces

A lire un débat passionnant entre le philosophe des sciences Daniel Denett et le paléontologue Stephen Jay Gould.

 Stephen Jay Gould, this time, in the NYRB has really outdone himself, by calling Dennett, inter alia, "Dawkins' lapdog". I think it was the lowliest of the lows that he could descend to. I wrote to Professor Dennett offering some, um, bitchy, or --to be more politically correct--doggie, doggerel to counter his spiteful attack:
"O. how I wish I were a doggie_And Stephie Gould a tree!"
